Born and raised in the northern suburbs of Chicago, Dano grew up waterskiing during the summers in Southeast Wisconsin. His summer lake bouts fueled his passion for towed watersports from a young age. Growing up, his off-season adolescent life is best described as a mirage of the best scenes from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the Breakfast Club and Weird Science. After Dano joined an amateur showski team called the Aquanuts around age 11, he realized he was meant to be in the watersports industry.
Dano landed his first industry gig straight out of high school, selling boats in the Chicagoland and Southeastern Wisconsin area in 2000. A snowbird at heart, Dano always knew he wanted to reside in sunny Florida, where the water never freezes and lakes litter the land. He packed up two short years later and headed to Orlando in 2003. He landed a job at Performance Ski and Surf and became immersed in the Orlando watersports scene.
Dano tried his voice at his first pro wakeboard contest in 2005, the Nautique Boats WWA Nationals. In 2006, he was hired on for the entire King of Wake Series, which he has continued to announce through the 2014 season. Almost every professional wakeboard event within the US, and even some abroad, have been announced by the one and only, Dano the Mano. If you are at a pro contest, chances are, you are listening to the noise.
As if announcing wasn’t enough, Dano has also created and hosted events, including an Amateur Subjectively Judged Trick Ski Contest and a Figure 8 Barefoot Endurance Contest, called Feet on Fire. Feet on Fire proved a success, running more then ten times between Florida and Wisconsin.
With his industry experience, professional connections and personal relationships with athletes, Dano’s privy perspective is truly one of a kind.
